Project Definition, Preparation & Briefing /

After contacting us, we will arrange a site visit to discuss your plans, and based on our initial meeting and your project requirements, we will provide a no-obligation quotation. Once on board, we will book in a measured survey and collate any further background information that we need. We will also confirm the brief back to you before any design work takes place.

STAGES 2-3

Concept Design and Spatial Coordination /

This is the main creative phase when we develop a draft design based around the project brief, together with any options requested within our appointment. Mid-stage on larger projects, we have a design review with you to select a preferred layout and incorporate any adjustments or further personalisation to the proposal. With a little more design coordination from us, we will complete a Planning pack and guide you through the Planning process. For projects over a certain value, a budget cost plan will be prepared.

STAGE 4

Technical Design /

RIBA Stage 4 contains everything from Planning to tender. Depending on the scope of our appointment, Stage outcome will include obtaining statutory consent to build, production of construction information, a finalised cost plan and helping you team up with a suitable builder. This Stage is where the visionary ideas and illustrations from earlier phases are detailed, and the input of the Structural Engineer and any other specialist is coordinated by our team.

STAGE 5

Construction Phase /

We work alongside building contractors and other professionals to move from drawing board to finished project. We are experienced in contract administration, valuation, certification and site inspection. Clients are kept up to date on timescale, progress and making payments. We are also there to complete any details reliant on existing building fabric being opened up, and collate information for the project Health & Safety file.

STAGES 6-7

In-Use /

On all building projects using a standard form of construction contract, there is a 12-month period, post-completion, when the building team is available to attend site for any issues with their work, and to tweak the settings on heating equipment and other building services. The RIBA Plan of Work includes a post-completion monitoring period for larger and more complex projects, which can be requested as an additional service. This might take into account building-user experience or as-built energy performance. In specialist environments, this will allow fine-tuning of spaces and equipment to meet specific needs.

Kate Wilde

Partner/ Project Lead

BA [Hons] Architecture [Manchester]
RIBA Part I (Royal Institute of British Architects)

Kate’s early-stage client engagement, her concept work and creative direction skills are closely matched with natural abilities in the day-to-day running of the practice. In the studio, her input is key to what we do. She brings artistry into projects and is a problem solver and designer. Prior to founding Wilde and Wilde in 2015, Kate had worked both in architecture and in an industry-related, high-value sales role. This has provided her with an all-round customer-focused skill base, that she brings into her own business. On residential projects in particular, she excels at focusing client aspirations within the briefing stage; initiating the design process and turning thoughts into flowing building plans. How did it start and how is it going?

"As a child, I was always keen on art (looking at it and making it). My family and I visited Europe a lot where I admired the time and craftwork put into finer buildings. My father was a construction professional and I was encouraged to study architecture. I naturally grew up to be a designer of buildings.

As a graduate in Manchester, I first worked on an urban design competition in the City's Cathedral Quarter for an award-winning Architect's firm. I developed details there for housing projects.

Architecture is an interesting profession in this sense, where you really do have to consider all of the practical aspects of the job and then suddenly get super creative on something totally different.

Being a Partner in your own firm tests all your skills and competencies. I enjoy engaging with clients, working through the design process with them and delivering the project vision".

What made you want to be an architect and what motivates you now?

"The building we lived in when I was small, was designed by a firm of British architects who liked stark vistas and raw concrete. Shortly after it was built it was Grade II Listed, as it was so daring at the time. So my first two years of life were spent toddling around inside someone's modernist architectural vision. It must have made a big impression on me, as years later I would become an Architect myself who wanted to work in the opposite direction of that early brutalism.

I studied perspective and proportions, structures, modern and traditional crafts, and in the same school of architecture as Kate, learned about passive and sustainable building design. Skills and knowledge that we have continued to develop and use everyday.

After graduating we moved to Holland and I was amazed to be granted that much responsibility as a young Part II architect, it was amazing! I was immediately thrust into a busy environment in a small team, working on Definative design stage plans for a multi-mode transport hub in Arnhem. I worked alongside some incredible people.

We moved to Norfolk, and I had a great time working in Norwich for a company where I was hired as a project architect and associate. Myself and one of the practice partners won the Emirates Glass Leaf award for best international sustainable development. The North Norfolk visitor centre and reserve continues to attract over 100,000 visitors annually, and was extended again due to it's success."

"We started Wilde and Wilde and now have 33 years of combined professional experience. Coming from a somewhat haute-couture architectural sphere; we have definately brought some of that quality to our local market.

We will continue creating interesting, functional and uplifting designs, that go beyond the ordinary. Work that is of high quality. Buildings that clients can comfortably invest in, sit back in and enjoy".
